Let's go random...

Yesterday I met this kid at work, he works at the pool snack bar which is adjoined with the tennis. His name is Mack. I was cleaning off one of the benches and he came out to ask if I needed help because he was so bored. We talked for a bit (pretty good conversation), then I went into the tennis and he went back to the snack bar. About 2 hours later, I went in to the snack bar to order up some food before leaving. I was talking to him a lot, asking him questions, basically continuing our conversation from before. As he walked out to deliver food to one of the members, he turns to me and seriously asks, "Have we met before?" HAHHA I was like WTF!! dude I just met you 2 hours ago, and he was like ohh sorry i'm just really bad with names! I was kind of freaked out -- anyway my grilled cheese sandwich was delicious.

I have a couple of dreams I vaguely remember from last night. One was I got bit by a vampire right in the neck, it hurt in the dream i guess but not really (b/c i don't feel pain in dreams). Let me remind you these weren't the good lookin' vampires from twilight either; I wish it was Alice who bit me :)
then the 2nd dream I was working on my first serve, learning how to use both legs and jump into the serve; of course in the dream I jumped up like 4ft and smacked it down -- if only I had the dream a couple of years ago - hahah

hmm that's it for random for now...it looks like shit outside, very overcast and breezy (which is how Toledo has been the past couple weeks, with every once in awhile a sunny day. Work is going well, I like the people there, it's different hanging out with adults now (ages 23-55) but I like it...

Way of the Peaceful Warrior

"A book that changes lives"
I dunno if it changed my life, haha, but it's definitely food for thought and things worth considering!

On the back of the book:

Way of the peaceful warrior is based on the story of Dan Millman, a world champion athlete who journeys into realms of flesh and spirit, romance and terror, light and darkness, laughter and magic. guided by a powerful old warrior named Socrates, tempted by an elusive, playful woman named Joy, Dan is led toward a final confrontation which will deliver or destroy him. Join Dan as he learns what it means to die - and live - like a warrior.

These next two passages I thought hit home from the book:

I wanted to whisper in peoples’ ears, “Wake up! Wake up! Soon the person you believe you are will die – so now, wake up and be content with this knowledge: There is no need to search; achievement leads to nowhere. It makes no difference at all, so just be happy now! Love is the only reality of the world, because it is all One, you see. And the only laws are paradox, humor, and change. There is no problem, never was, and never will be. Release your struggle, let go of your mind, throw away your concerns, and realx into the world. No need to resist life; just do your best. Open your eyes and see that you are far more than your imagine. You are the world you are the universe; you are yourself and everyone else, too! It’s all the marvelous Play of God. Wake up, regan your humor. Don’t worry, just be happy. You are already free!”

and this is what Dan wrote under his Final Notes section at the end of the book:

A book can inspire, expand perspectives, remind us of the truth we already know – but real transformation entails a whole life of practice.

The life and practice of the peaceful warrior is action – being usueful to others . in the eyes of Spirit, little things count. What you give, you receive. Doing is understanding. And you can do anything when you find the heart for it, and the courage.

Of course we make mistakes; it’s how we learn. We’re all in training. Life can be difficult; what an opportunity! The Light will disturb us when we’re comfortable,a nd comfort us when we’re disturbed. We turn to Spirit for help when our foundations are shaking, only to find that it is Spirit who is shaking them.

I’m not special; we all have our “Socrates.” He’s your higher self. So be guided by the best that’s witinin you. In any moment you can ask, “what would my high self do?” and you’ll know the right course. Trust yourself; trust the process that is your life. You are the spiritual being you’ve been waiting for.

It’s said that there’s one Journey but many paths. Here’s wishing you well on your own path, on the Journey without distance we travel.

What's going on in my life?

Well the season is finished, college tennis is finished, hill workouts are finished, practice is finished...a lot of endings...It hasn't hit me yet though.
I finished season the best I could; I couldn't have done better. I beat this kid in the finals of the MAC tourney that I haven't been able to beat about all 7 times we have played since juniors. It was a great way to go out; undefeated in the tournament, for both Jay and I - couldn't be happier. Deep down, Jay will miss it too!

I had my last undergrad class ever on Thursday.
Friday I went to our home Track meet and got to see some of my friends compete. They did well. Then Friday night I went to track/cross country house party. That was a lot of fun!!!
Yesterday, I went to the Toledo Country Club to check out everything because I start work on Monday. Then I went and playd tennis with Chris Clark, it felt very weird playing after not practicing for so long, I feel like I have gotten so much worse, haha! Then I went to the lib, started my 10pg philosophy paper, fml!! Then, Jay Wade and I went to go see X-men Origins: Wolverine. I really liked it, we all did, a lot of badass scenes. After, us 3 went to applebees and got some food and and cheered to some drinks!

upcoming:
Finals week, next week. I have a final Tues and Weds morning and my paper/listen to presentations on Thursday night, then I am finito!
But next week is going to suck, b/c like I said I start work. I have some crazy hours going on, it's going to be rough! but lots and lots of $$$
Graduation Sunday May 10th
Going home probably Tuesday May 12th
Chicago for Engagement party Fri/Sat.

Well, off to school work, hope everything is well with you ppls! Enjoy the weather, laterrrrr!

UT vs. Ball State
Tied 3-3
I won the 2nd set to go into a 3rd and the match came down to me...
I wouldn't want it any other way...
Arm started cramping, then the legs for the whole third set...
I fought as hard as I could, but on top of not playing well the whole day, I didn't have enough in me to pull out the win...and so we lost 3-4.
Definetly a heart-wrencher and an upsetting finish...

time to bounce back...

Church

So tonight I went to church with one of my teammates. It was the first time going to church in Toledo for 2 yrs and first time going to Catholic church since I was 12 or so? There I met up with one of my friends; she goes every Sunday so I told her to let me know what was going on because I felt very lost/ignorant and not knowing what to do because I had forgotten everything since childhood. I stayed silent when most of everyone else spoke. I did receive communion; the bread/body, not the wine/blood.

Although I felt weird being there because I have not been in so long, I really enjoyed being there. It was good being around a bunch of people with one common interest. And I have been wanting to go for a very long time, so again i'm glad I went; it was cleansing...I think I may do it again come next Sunday...

don't worry, I prayed for you as well!

randomz

SB is over and back to reality. 6 more weeks of tennis, about 8 weeks of school. Def ready to get this semester over with. Grind.
Summer time will be busy with work but definitely chill!
Tomorrow is St. Patrick's Day so don't forget to wear Green or you get pinched!! muhaha

Sweet paragraph from my Philosophy Courage book...
“They are a nightmare vision of incorrigibility or cluelessness, of unrelenting determination to carry out their intentions against a universe whose claims they either do not understand or do not acknowledge. They give us the heebie-jeebies in their preternatural imperviousness to social and moral claims and even to threats of physical pain. They are unreachable in a way that even the courageous person who doesn’t scare easily is not.”

pics

Yo Neill and Alisha - the Las Vegas picks were good! I like the gun pics hah
check out some of my purchases...
And when you get a chance, I added a bunch of pics from the trip to facebook!!

San Diego

Spring break 09 for me and the rockets was held in La Jolla, San Diego. Our hotel was shit but the location was great because it was right on the beach.

The tennis club was amazing. It had golf, lots of tennis courts, players lounge, restaurant, fitness, massage center, and right behind the club was another beach area...

Everybody did pretty bad at the tourney. It was only doubles and was outdoors. We haven't played outdoors yet, so it was a first...so being the first time outside we did really well, but the results weren't there. I think all the teams went 1-2.

Whatev...then spring break started! Break was pretty good. I did a lot of walking and spending more money than I wanted to, but I bought some sweet shirts, hats, shoes, new styling! Neill/Alisha/Jay approved haha!
ohh you 3, check out the baby vans...

It was really cold for being in San Diego due to the wind! So it was hard to get out to the beach. I did run on the beach which was fun. The last day, I made it out to the hotel pool with Leo H and Wade and we did some crazy jumps and stuff in the pool which is on Leo's and JP's video camera haha! Speaking of Leo, we ate Brazilian food twice, very delicious! I got a rice, chicken, cream sauce dish called Strogonoff with guarana (a drink tasting like cream soda)!

One of the days, Jay and I chilled at this bar during the last hour of happy hour...that was good brotherly bonding/catch up time, haha...

We also passed a couple of car shops...here is a bugatti we saw...simply amazing! I see why Robert wants it, haha!

All of these pics were taking with my iPhone. I have a lot more pics on my camera and Leo's camera as well, I'll try to get all of them gathered and get it them to those interested :) I am tired of updating and putting in pics for this blog but to end my blog of San Diego I leave you with this picture...

weekend recap

Sat. Feb 14th - Valentine's Day
@the movies...
He's Just Not That Into You - sold out
Push - sold out
Friday the 13th - sold out
among others...

We ended up seeing Slumdog Millionaire. It was a pretty good movie. very serious, kind of sad, but overall pretty good; I think it won a lot of awards. I don't think I would see it again. Maybe I didn't enjoy it as much because I really wanted to see He's Just Not That Into You, but the company was good :)

Sunday we played Cleveland State, and we smoked them! 7-0. Last year we won 4-3, but this year, everybody played awesome and we dominated!

Today we had the day off, I went to this mediterranean restaurant place in our student union with some friends. I got a Falafel wrap w/ hommus. It was really good, I was impressed! It reminded me of the one other time I ate Falafel with Rob and Jay in chicago, And the one time Rob made Falafel, but anyway mmm it was good :)

time-spending

I think I have mild senioritis...
No motivation to do school work. I had a cell bio exam yesterday morning and I have no idea how it went; it was pretty tough though...I have a Human Physiology exam on Tuesday and there is a shit-ton of information I have to know; and it's only about the heart! It's my favorite class by far though, so atleast that makes it a little more easier to study for.
But since I don't like studying this semester, I have been reading more.
I just purchased Daneil Tammet's book Embracing The Wide Sky and the 2nd Twilight book New Moon. I have been reading New Moon, almost half way finished -- it's ok so far, kinda boring right now, not much happening, but I have a feeling things will pick up in the chapters to come.

oh good news just in, I just received this: "Miller Earns MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week Honors"
check it out http://www.utrockets.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=18000&ATCLID=3663846

another long weekend, we are leaving for Michigan at 130

The book is always better...

So I watched the movie Twilight on an internet movie website. Let me tell you about the movie experience first. Because my wireless connection here at my apartment is almost nonexistent (i.e. it sucks!), I ventured to the library where 1) It's quiet, and 2) the wireless there is very fast :) So I start watching the movie yesterday evening and after 75minutes the website stops and says "You have watched 75 minutes of this movie...you can sign up to watch free movies (and pay) or wait 54minutes and try again" I was like are you kidding me, right in the middle, the meat of the movie it stops! agh! So I wait, and do some studying. Then later start it up again, this time it stops as James bites Bella.. ahhh right in the middle of the action! It was getting late so I said screw it I'll finish it some other time! So tonight, I try to finish the little bit of the movie I had left...I made it to the prom and it stopped again with the same message, even though it was only like 4min from the previous scene! man-o-man! After waiting about 30 more minutes, I finally got to see the last 2 minutes.

Was it worth it? Not really. The movie was kind of cheesy. Bella was kind of annoying...like the I-don't-know-how-to-act kind. Edward was ok...not as "dreamy" as the book makes him out to be, (lol Alisha)! but his coolest line was "I have the strenght to kill you!" I thought that was pretty awesome. Overall, I probably would see it again, but the book was a lot better! And I am planning on reading the 2nd one soon.

Another long weekend for us Rockets
Friday we beat Dayton 5-0. Knot and I sat this match. We had to stop the match because the building's power went out. This was our first win of the season!
Saturday we played Xavier and Detroit back to back. We started out with Xavier and lost 3-4, very close and competitive match. Sven, Aleks and I won our singles matches in 3 sets!
We beat detroit 5-2, after losing the doubles point.
we are now 2-3 overall
I am 1-2 singles and 0-3 doubles :(
I have a long season ahead of me though, only can get better!
More updates here!

I am pretty sore from the weekend and I think I may have tweaked my oblique muscle from serving so big (yes, I serve pretty big now :)).

Can you take me back to that place where stars glow?
Comets swarm like fireflies outside your window

1st day of classes and practice - luckily my schedule isn't too bad but i'm tired already!

It's going to be a long semester, but should be fun!

Saturday, January 10, 2009

that's a lot of snow

It has been snowing since yesterday morning here in Toledo...we have somewhere between 6-10 inches either out there or expected; and it won't stop snowing!

I finished Twilight! It was a pretty good book. Bella is an idiot-too clumsy! I am curious about how the movie plays out - I may check it out when I get some free time.

My cousin is here in Toledo, so we all are hopefully going to get lunch later assuming the roads are completely shit...probably Jamaican food mmmm!

...still snowing!...

mmm grass

I started my day off with a wheat grass shot...

...nuff said...

Say Yes!

Jay and I watched Yes Man last night. 1) to get out of the house and watch a movie I wanted to see with free movie tickets and 2) to flaunt my new style - dark jeans, checkerboard vans, and my black hoodie - oh I looked good (haha thanks Neill, Alisha, and $J$)

The experience was not so great, we went to the 10:15 showing, so no high school kids or anything, but there was an obnoxious guy w/ his girlfriend to the right side of the theatre and 2 very outspokenly annoying older women a couple of rows in front of me - you know the laugh-annoyingly-outloud at the minor funny parts and laugh so hard they snorted - def. could have done w/o them...but the movie was great!

I really enjoyed the comedy. I like Jim Carrey, very talented and very funny! Say Yes to every opportunity presented or question asked. That's kind of a neat concept. When I think about it I want to do it because it will lead to very spontaneous actions. And with my crammed schedule it's hard to be spontaneous!
But I am going to do it :)
And you should watch the movie!
7.5/10 for my comedy taste

I do want to see He's Just Not That Into You. After talking with a friend, I realized it is the movie based off of the book I have heard about it my high school days... But the cast is amazing and I think it's going to be worth a watch (perhaps on a date, haha). Also, Kevin Connolly is in there, and I like him from Entourage!

bonne chance et au revoir

Born on a Blue Day

Inside the Extraordinary Mind of an Autistic Savant

I just got finished reading the book and it was very good! It was an autobiography of Daniel Tammet. It is a very inspiring book. It will inspire you to do charity work, learn a new foreign language, memorize whatever, and appreciate people that are considered “different.”

He has a website where you can go to learn more (http://www.optimnem.co.uk/)

And he is coming out with a new book in a few weeks that I will be purchasing because he is such a fascinating person and his messages are clear.

If you stumble across the book, give it a read! It's fairly short and definitely a good read!

I think Twilight is next on the list...
